Sylvan Park Tree Planting Event

The Sylvan Park Neighborhood Association has been actively working to maintain our established neighborhood trees, replace dying/dead trees, and plant new trees.  We’ve been partnering with local horticulturists, nonprofits and neighbors to provide ongoing support for our Sylvan Park tree canopy.

Recent efforts to-date have included working with the Nashville Tree Foundation and Metro for volunteer tree pruning events, the removal of several dead trees, and the addition of 34 new trees in the fall of 2022.

The Nashville Tree Foundation and Metro will again support the planting of additional trees in Sylvan Park right-of-way areas this fall, and a volunteer planting date will be held on Saturday, November 4th from 9am to 12:00pm!  Nashville Tree Foundation staff will be on site for a tree planting demonstration and to help volunteers install the trees.  We're anticipating the addition of another 34 new trees (including a mix of 9 different species) to Sylvan Park right-of-way areas this fall!  We welcome volunteers who would like to participate in this training and planting event.  If you'd like to help increase the tree canopy in Sylvan Park, please use the following link to register as a volunteer for this upcoming event:  https://mobilize.us/s/DsaUDZ

To see a map illustrating where the trees will be planted, see the following link:
Proposed Tree Planting Locations 11-2023

Plus, watch for details on a community tree planting day in February 2024 that will offer Sylvan Park residents an opportunity to obtain free trees from the Nashville Tree Foundation for their property.

We hope you're able to join us as we add more new trees to Sylvan Park!

Richland Creek Education & Clean-up Event

Saturday, May 20th, Harpeth Conservancy and the Tennessee Environmental Council will be hosting a Richland Creek clean-up event at West Park from 10am to noon.  Details regarding the event, including a link that can be used to register, are below.

Lessons on the River: Habitat Assessment & Action

with Harpeth Conservancy & Tennessee Environmental Council

Saturday, May 20 | 10am-noon

West Park on Richland Creek

Harpeth Conservancy's Lessons on the River workshops are all-ages, hands-on opportunities to learn about the issues impacting our waterways and gain skills to engage our mission to protect clean water! On May 20th, we'll learn how to assess the health of a stream habitat (from identifying vegetation, water quality, and how pollution impacts our waterways) and determine the next steps for stewarding our threatened waterways. We'll also remove trash and debris as we walk along the creek. Participants should wear clothes and shoes they don't mind getting wet and are encouraged to bring water in a refillable bottle. This is a great opportunity to learn about the issues impacting water quality and wildlife habitat at Richland Creek and gain new skills to empower community-based, responsible stewardship of the Richland Creek Watershed.

Register here: https://dash.pointapp.org/events/56397

Sign up for this combination education & clean-up event and help to keep Richland Creek healthy and beautiful!
