Applications for traffic calming submitted by the Sylvan Park Neighborhood Association have been selected by the Metro Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program. Specifically, the following areas will be included in the upcoming traffic calming project:
Nebraska Avenue
between 51st Avenue and 37th Avenue44th Avenue North
between Charlotte Avenue and Murphy Road42nd Avenue North
between Charlotte Avenue and Murphy Road37th Avenue North
between Murphy Road and the railroad underpass
The first step in the process was a Webex community meeting on February 21st. Following the meeting, additional input was gathered by Metro’s traffic engineers (through discussion with neighbors and in-person visits to the affected streets). Discussion of preliminary proposals also took place at SPNA monthly meetings.
The Metro traffic engineers have now developed a proposal for traffic calming along Nebraska, 37th, 42nd and 44th that will be shared with neighbors at a second community meeting on Thursday, June 16th at 6pm. The meeting will be held at the McCabe Park Community Center, with an option for joining via Webex. The Webex link is included below.
Following this second meeting, support for the proposal will be gathering from homeowners along the affected streets. That will entail explaining the plan and getting signatures from as many homeowners on the affected streets as possible. Metro will not move forward without 70% buy-in from homeowners. Community involvement is essential if we are going to get a workable plan that has broad support within Sylvan Park.
